This is a tour for enthusiasts who wish to take a specialist stone circle tour. There are about 50 stone circles in Cumbria including some of the earliest stone circles in Britain. There is a vast range of types from the large scale monumental circles at Castlerigg and Long Meg, standard early Bronze Age circles of about 100ft in diameter such as Elva Plain, to henge monuments and diminutive rings associated with alignments and burials. Our tour starts in the east at Long Meg and after stopping for lunch near Keswick we continue westwards in the afternoon via Elva Plain and on to Kinniside on Cold Fell with spectacular views of the afternoon sun setting over the Irish Sea. From Cold Fell we travel back to Keswick via Loweswater, Crummock Water and Newlands Pass to round off a superb day.
